SCC to Host SummerFEST 2026 Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday

Whiteville – Southeastern Community College is gearing up for a patriotic summer kickoff as it hosts SummerFEST 2026 on Thursday, June 25, from 6:30–10:30 p.m. on the SCC front lawn. This year’s event doubles as a celebration of America’s 250th birthday, marking the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Event Highlights

• Free, family‑friendly festival on the SCC campus
• June 25, 6:30–10:30 p.m.
• Hosted on the front lawn with space for families, vendors, and community groups
• Partnership with the Columbus County Farmer’s Market to expand local business and vendor participation
• Outdoor movie showing of National Treasure at 8:30 p.m.
• Food trucks, craft vendors, inflatables, lawn games, free face painting, and more

Leadership Voices

• Dr. Chris English, SCC President: “We are celebrating America’s 250th, and we’re getting everyone excited about summer. This is your traditional American theme with the Fourth of July coming up soon afterwards. It’s going to be a great evening, and I’m looking forward to it.”
• Colene Faulk, Dean of Student Services: She emphasized the dual purpose of the event — celebrating America’s 250th and connecting families with SCC’s educational and workforce opportunities. “We are partnering with the Columbus County Farmer’s Market again this year, and we really want to showcase everything they have to offer. This event is going to have a carnival feel to it in addition to celebrating America.”

Movie Feature: National Treasure

• Screening begins at 8:30 p.m.
• Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs
• The film follows historian and treasure hunter Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) as he races to protect a hidden national treasure — and famously steals the Declaration of Independence to keep it out of the wrong hands.

Before the movie, SCC will debut its newly produced commercial highlighting academic programs, student success stories, and the college’s community impact.

Campus & Community Engagement

• SCC’s Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) will sell popcorn as a fundraiser for upcoming activities.
• SCC will host an information table featuring fall semester programs, admissions details, and workforce pathways.
• Local vendors and SCC employees are invited to participate.
