WHITEVILLE — Southeastern Community College has created a new fund to strengthen its Small Business Center while honoring the legacy of a well‑known Columbus County entrepreneur and small‑business advocate.

The Sally McKenzie Page High SCC Small Business Center Fund was established through a $30,000 gift from her children, Sarah Page Shifflet and Paul Milton Page, in memory of their mother. The fund will provide ongoing support for Small Business Center programs and launch a new annual recognition — the Sally McKenzie Page High Entrepreneur Community Award.

A Lifelong Advocate for Local Business

High was deeply involved in the family’s businesses, including McKenzie Mortuary and Court Square Store in downtown Whiteville. Her work connected her to generations of local families and helped shape her belief in the importance of small businesses as the backbone of community life.

SCC officials said the new fund reflects her long‑standing commitment to entrepreneurship, local economic growth, and community service.

Supporting Future Entrepreneurs

The Small Business Center offers free counseling, workshops, and resources to help new and existing business owners navigate challenges and grow their operations. SCC leaders say the new fund will allow the center to expand services and reach more entrepreneurs across the region.

Shifflet said the fund honors her mother’s belief in the power of small businesses to strengthen communities.

“My mother understood the importance of small businesses and the difference they make in a community,” she said. “It is my hope that this fund will help future entrepreneurs succeed and continue to strengthen the economy in Columbus County.”

Continuing a Legacy of Local Support

The new award created through the fund will recognize individuals who demonstrate strong entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to community impact — values High championed throughout her life.
