Sadie Mae Shaw, 81, went to be with her Savior on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at the Lower Cape Fear Life Care in Wilmington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Williams, stepfather, Dorothea Williams, mother; brother George “Junior” Williams and dearest friend of 60 years, Dorothy Flynn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Riegelwood Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Friday.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 64 years, Donald Shaw Jr.; her son, Don Shaw III and wife Teresa of Wilmington; granddaughter, Dr. Sarah Shaw and fiancé Ben Sorrell of Concord; nephews, Hugh Williams and wife Rebecca of South Carolina; and Craig Williams of Michigan.
Sadie lived a full, rich and productive life. She retired from the North Carolina Dept. of Motor Vehicles to become a full time “Nana” to the love of her life, Sarah Shaw. Pop-Pop, Nana, and Sarah had new adventures every day for 18 years, laughing, tailgating at McDonalds, bear hunting in the woods, playing dress-up ad many more happy, joyous activities.
Sadie’s love for her family was beyond measure. Her smile lit up the room when her family entered, and she always gave the best hugs. In addition to her family, she loved attending her church and praising the Lord. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Riegelwood Baptist Church for 20 years. After church, Sunday dinners at her house were a regular occurrence and enjoyed by family, friends and guests. Gardening and tending to her flowers and pets and sitting in the sunroom were some of her favorite past times. She also loved shopping, especially shoe shopping with her son, Don. She will be missed, but those that love her know where she is and we will see her again.
