Nearly two dozen kayaks launched under ideal conditions for the town’s annual spring paddle.
Oak Island, NC — A picture‑perfect spring morning as over two dozen kayaks and even more paddlers set out for this year’s annual Ride the Tide, sponsored by The Adventure Kayak Company. With sunny skies, temperatures just over 60 degrees, and a well‑timed high tide, conditions couldn’t have been better for the launch.

Ride the Tide has grown into one of Oak Island’s signature warm‑weather traditions, celebrating the waterways that have shaped the town since its earliest days.
Long before Oak Island became a coastal destination, these marsh channels and tidal creeks served as working routes for fishermen, oystermen, and river pilots navigating the lower Cape Fear. Today’s event carries that history forward by inviting residents and visitors to experience the same waters in a safer, more recreational way.
The Oak Island Fire Department and Oak Island Water Rescue teams were on the course throughout the morning to ensure a safe enjoyable experience for every paddler.
