Retta Mae Potter McDuffie, 88, of Chadbourn, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 5, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Retta was born on February 21, 1937, daughter of the late Elwood Potter and Jessie Mae Wilkerson Potter. She was also preceded in death by her son, Bobby Ray McDuffie, Jr. and her siblings, Bonnie Padrick and Cricket Potter.
Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday at New Life Community Church, with Pastor Charles Cribb officiating. Burial will follow in the McDuffie Family Cemetery in Clarendon.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service on Friday, January 9, at New Life Community Church located at 107 Maultsbuy St. Whiteville.
Retta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; her kindness and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her. Retta was a charter member of New Life Community Church, of which she attended faithfully for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Ray McDuffie, Sr.; children, Wayne Sholar, Elva Sholar, Sandra Palmer (Craig), Connie L. Fhurch (Aaron), Jerry Sholar, Wanda Soles (Reece), Robert McDuffie (Charlotte), Billy McDuffie (Darlene); brother, Norwood Potter; and a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
