Undeclared soy in ready‑to‑eat jerky products prompts a nationwide safety warning for consumers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a nationwide public health alert for several ready‑to‑eat beef jerky products produced by Punahele Jerky Company, Inc. of Hilo, Hawaii. The products contain undeclared soy, a known allergen, and were found to be misbranded during routine inspection.
The alert covers three products bearing Est. 2625 inside the USDA mark of inspection:
• Dried Hawaiian Style Beef Crisps, Original Salt & Pepper Flavor (6‑oz packages)
• Uncle K’s Beef Crisps (4‑oz packages)
• Kilauea Fire Spicy Beef Crisps (4‑oz packages)
All affected items have best‑by dates of February 17, 2027, or earlier. FSIS reports the jerky was distributed nationwide, though specific retail locations and states were not identified. Because the products are no longer available for purchase, a formal recall was not requested; however, consumers may still have these items at home.
Individuals with soy allergies or sensitivities are urged not to consume the affected jerky. FSIS advises anyone who experiences an allergic reaction or illness to contact a healthcare provider.
