Winnabow VFD says statewide fire fee changes will not affect local rates for 2026

Winnabow, NC — Winnabow Volunteer Fire Department is notifying property owners within the Winnabow Fire District that fire fee rates will remain unchanged on the 2026 Brunswick County tax bills.

The department issued the clarification after residents began receiving county letters outlining statewide changes to fire fee limits. While recent legislation allows fire departments to request higher fee caps, Winnabow VFD said it did not seek any increase for Fiscal Year 2026–2027.

According to the department, its current fire fee structure will stay the same, and property owners within the Winnabow Fire District will not see any additional fire fee charges from Winnabow on their upcoming bills.

The department noted that countywide updates may cause confusion and said it wants residents to clearly understand that the changes do not affect the district’s rates.

Winnabow VFD said it remains committed to providing dependable fire and emergency services while responsibly managing the funds entrusted to the department.

Winnabow Volunteer Fire continues to serve the community with a combination of volunteer and career personnel.
