NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC — The City of North Myrtle Beach will host its annual Independence Day fireworks celebration this Saturday, July 4, with a professional display set to illuminate the skies over the Cherry Grove Pier.
The event, which is open to the public, is scheduled to run from 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. While the display serves as a focal point for the holiday weekend, city officials are urging attendees to plan ahead for strict traffic modifications and safety regulations designed to manage the expected influx of spectators.
Navigating the Waterfront
The North Myrtle Beach Police and Fire Departments will be on-site to manage the beachfront area adjacent to the pier. Sections of the beach surrounding the pier will be cordoned off starting at 7:00 p.m. to ensure a safe fallout zone for the professional display. Access will remain subject to change based on weather and tidal conditions, and attendees are encouraged to consult local tide charts before choosing their viewing location.
Safety and City Ordinances
City officials reminded the public that while the professional display at the pier is permitted, the private sale, possession, and use of consumer fireworks within North Myrtle Beach city limits remain strictly prohibited.
For those traveling locally, standard golf cart regulations will remain in effect, limiting operation to daylight hours between sunrise and sunset. Additionally, parking in the median along Ocean Boulevard is prohibited; authorities will be monitoring the area to ensure traffic flow is not obstructed.
Post-Show Traffic Management
To alleviate congestion following the conclusion of the show, the North Myrtle Beach Police Department will initiate a temporary reverse traffic pattern throughout the Cherry Grove area.
During the dispersal period, the following traffic directives will be enforced:
- Ocean Boulevard: Traffic will flow in both northbound and southbound directions. Motorists are strictly prohibited from turning onto Sea Mountain Highway from Ocean Boulevard.
- Highway 17 Access: Drivers attempting to reach Highway 17 North must route via 11th Avenue North.
- Nixon and Duffy Streets: Southbound traffic on both streets will be required to make a right-hand turn onto Sea Mountain Highway.
- Sea Mountain Highway: Eastbound traffic will be required to turn right at Spring Street.
Normal traffic patterns are expected to resume once the area has cleared. Police are advising motorists to remain patient, follow the direction of officers on the ground, and exercise heightened caution when exiting the area.
