Gov. Stein orders flags to half‑staff following deaths of soldiers, including Fort Bragg personnel and service members returned in solemn Dover transfer

Raleigh, NC — Gov. Josh Stein ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half‑staff in honor of U.S. service members lost in recent Middle East operations, including Fort Bragg soldiers and their fellow service members whose remains were returned this week.
The Governor’s Office flag-lowering order remained in place until sunset on Friday, July 24.
State and defense officials noted that the recent losses span multiple duty assignments and home states.
Among those killed were 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, both assigned to Fort Bragg.
The tragic toll from the recent overseas attacks also claimed the lives of Army Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, and Army Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York.
President Donald Trump, alongside defense officials and North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis, traveled to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Wednesday, July 22, to attend the solemn dignified transfer ceremony for all four fallen service members.
President Trump met privately with the grieving families prior to the return.
Memorial arrangements and additional details are coordinated through military public affairs officials.
