NAVASSA, NC — Navassa Volunteer Fire Department has begun early pre‑planning visits at a major commercial facility now under construction in the 1200 block of Cedar Hill Road. The project, which will exceed 100,000 square feet, is part of the continued growth in the district.

Construction inspections for the Cedar Hill facility are handled by Brunswick County Code Administration, but Navassa firefighters are conducting familiarization visits to strengthen future emergency response.

Observing the structure during its buildout allows personnel to better understand the building’s layout, construction methods, and the operation of critical life‑safety systems such as fire suppression and alarm components.

Crews plan to return at key milestones as those systems are installed. During this week’s visit, paid personnel viewed the main sprinkler system riser pipe before the slab is poured and the surrounding ground is backfilled. Another visit is expected in about a month when sprinkler system installation begins.

The department hopes to gather updated information from industry experts on modern fire sprinkler and alarm technologies, which will be shared with all personnel.

Navassa VFD thanked the Samet Corporation for hosting staff during the visit.
