Myrtle Beach: Nightly Road Closures for Ocean Boulevard Lighting Project

Four nights of phased closures expected as crews install the updated overhead lighting system

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — Nightly road closures begin this week along Ocean Boulevard as crews start installing new overhead lighting. Work begins tonight, Monday, June 15, with the first closure scheduled between Ninth Avenue North and Mr. Joe White Avenue. The full project area extends from Ninth Avenue North to 16th Avenue North.

The contractor will work in sections, and installation is expected to take approximately four nights, weather permitting.

The lighting project was originally proposed as an arch‑style installation, but the design has since been modified. By removing the arches, the city reports significant cost savings while expanding the coverage area. The updated system will cost about $120,000 and will illuminate a greater distance than initially planned.
