Horry County, SC — Love for Paws Rescue, a foster‑based nonprofit is temporarily pausing adoption applications for one of its current dogs, a beagle named Paige. The organization says the pause will last at least one to two weeks while staff review an unusually high number of submissions.
Paige has received more than 50 applications since becoming available.
According to the rescue, only two have been approved so far. Some applications were submitted impulsively, while others wouldn’t been able to step up for long‑term pet care, including consistent heartworm prevention or the ability to meet Paige’s specific behavioral and routine needs. In some cases, applicants who were approved later chose not to move forward.
Love for Paws Rescue, which places orphaned and abandoned pets exclusively through foster homes rather than a physical shelter, says its mission has never been about placing a dog in the first available home.
The organization prioritizes stability and permanence, focusing on matches where adopters are prepared for the commitment and structure dogs like Paige require.
Paige will remain in foster care while the rescue continues its evaluation process. Staff say she deserves a home where she will be understood, supported, and loved for the rest of her life.
To help ensure that outcome, Love for Paws Rescue offers a foster‑to‑adopt program with all supplies provided. The program allows families to spend time with a dog before finalizing an adoption, reducing mismatches and preventing pets from returning to the rescue system.
Before submitting future applications, the organization is asking potential adopters to consider whether they are fully prepared for the responsibility and long‑term commitment of bringing a pet into their home. The temporary pause, they say, will help staff focus on families who are genuinely ready to provide the stability dogs like Paige need.
