Loren T. Shaw, 84, of Chadbourn, North Carolina, formerly of Derby, Vermont, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born and raised in Dover, New Hampshire, Loren was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, public servant, businessman, pilot, musician, and friend. A true jack of many trades, he lived a life defined by hard work, service to others, and a deep love for family and community.
Throughout his life, Loren pursued many careers and entrepreneurial ventures. He was the owner and operator of Parkside Family Restaurant, Newport Car Wash and Mini Mart, and the West Charleston Corner Store. He also worked as a real estate agent and school bus driver, building lasting connections with countless people throughout Orleans County and beyond.
Loren’s commitment to public service was evident in his 16 years of service as a Vermont State Representative for Orleans District 1, where he worked diligently on behalf of his constituents and the communities he loved.
An accomplished pilot, Loren combined his love of aviation with service to others. He participated in numerous Angel Flights, providing transportation for those in need of medical care. He proudly flew the Vermont State Flag to New York City in remembrance of the victims of September 11, 2001, and later flew the Vermont State Flag to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, to commemorate the anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ historic achievement in flight.
Loren was a dedicated member of Irasburg Masonic Lodge #62 and a proud Shriner. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was an active member of the Newport Church of God in Vermont and, in more recent years, the Chadbourn Church of God in North Carolina.
Outside of his many professional and civic accomplishments, Loren’s greatest joy came from his family. He especially loved hunting with his grandchildren, creating treasured memories in the outdoors. He also had a lifelong passion for music and played bass guitar in several local bands throughout the years, sharing his talent and love of music with friends and community members alike.
Loren is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Shaw; his children, Vanessa Shaw and her children Josh and Jason; Glenn Porter (Andrea) of Glover, Vermont and his children Alicia and Kenneth; Wanda Morse (Ron) of West Charleston, Vermont and her children David, Doug, Monica, and Katie; Robert Shaw of Coventry, Vermont; Michael Shaw of Orleans, Vermont and his children Michael Jr., Jesse, Savannah, and Dawson; David Shevenell (Tammy) of Rochester, New Hampshire and his children Jacob and Kalob; Samantha Trucott (Craig) of Chadbourn, North Carolina and her children Aidan, Amelia, Alden, and Bella; and Alex Shaw of Newport, Vermont and her child Giavonte.
He was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and many foster children who became cherished members of his extended family over the years, each holding a special place in his heart.
Loren is further survived by his siblings, Debbie Boulter (George) of Manchester, New Hampshire, and David Costello (Dawn) of Goffstown, New Hampshire.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Fred Shaw, Ford Shaw, Evelyn Woodard, Richard Shaw, and Skip Costello, as well as his beloved grandson, Wolfe Porter.
Loren’s life was marked by service, faith, adventure, entrepreneurship, and compassion. Whether serving his state, helping those in need through aviation, working in his businesses, making music, or spending time with family, he left an enduring impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
His legacy lives on through the generations of family he loved so deeply and the countless lives he touched throughout his 84 years.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear.
