Linwood Cartrette – Clarendon NC

Linwood Cartrette age 80, of Clarendon, NC., died Wednesday evening, June 17, 2026, in McLeod Loris Hospital, Loris, SC.

Born in Columbus County, NC., he was the son of the late Clarence Carvin Cartrette and Retha Annie Lee Worley Cartrette.

He graduated from Williams Township School Class of 1963.

After serving in the United States Air Force, he returned home and married Sheila Spivey.  Linwood opened Cartrette’ s Auto Sales and Body Shop in 1970. Always a public servant at heart, in 1986 he became the Columbus County assistant coroner, two years later in 1988, he was elected Coroner of Columbus County and was the longest serving and last elected Coroner of Columbus County.

Linwood and wife Sheila became the proud owners of Fowlers Grill in Tabor City in 1998. In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Roy Cooper for his many contributions to his community.

He was a lifelong member of Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church, his other accomplishments included being a 32nd degree Master Mason of Tabor Lodge 563 and helping children as a Sudan Shriner, however, his proudest accomplishment was his family,

He is survived by his wife of fifty five years Sheila Spivey Cartrette of the home, two daughters, Krystal Cartrette Spivey (Jeff) of Clarendon, NC., Macelynn Cartrette (Kevin) of Clarendon, NC., one sister, Faye Simmons (Ricky) of Chadbourn, NC., four grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith (Adam), Josh Spivey, Carter Hughes, Sydney Hughes, two great- grandchildren, Owen Smith, Adalynn Smith, two step grandchildren, Lauren Cartrette, Braylon Cartrette.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Vema Cribb.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:00AM in Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church by Rev. Buddy Seay with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church.
