Local Resident Hits Six-Figure Jackpot on Scratch-Off Ticket Purchased at Leland Walmart
LELAND, NC — A Brunswick County woman is celebrating a major windfall this week after turning a routine stop into a six-figure jackpot. You Zhu of Leland recently claimed a $100,000 top prize from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Zhu purchased her lucky $30 scratch-off ticket from the Walmart located on New Pointe Boulevard in Leland. She opted to try her luck on the “$100,000 Cash Payday” game and hit the top tier. Zhu arrived at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Monday to officially claim her winnings, taking home $72,018 after required state and federal tax withholdings.
The “$100,000 Cash Payday” game is a relatively new addition to the state’s lottery lineup, having just debuted in March.
The game launched with a total of 80 top prizes of $100,000. According to lottery officials, Zhu’s win still leaves plenty of luck out there for other players, as 68 of those $100,000 top prizes remain unclaimed across the state.
