Joseph Ivan Cortes, 39, of Supply, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
Born on July 3, 1986, in Wilmington, North Carolina, Joseph was the son of Ivan and Dana Cortes. He graduated from West Brunswick High School in 2004.
Joseph worked as a chef for many years and was best known for his talent in making sushi. In recent months, he worked alongside his father, Ivan, in construction. Outside of work, Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was especially devoted to attending his children’s sporting events.
He is survived by his four children, Liam Hardee, Jayden Hardee, Marlie Cortes, and Charleigh Cortes; his parents,. Ivan and Dana Cortes; his brother, Joshua Cortes; his sister, Shayna Hewett (Red); his niece, EmmaRae; his nephew, William Hewett; his girlfriend Jenna Welch (Charleigh); the mother of his children Lindie Hardee (Liam, Jayden, Marlie), and a host of aunts, uncles and extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Willa Allen; his paternal grandparents, Eligio Cortes and Antonia Diaz; and his brother, Timothy Bellamy.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Eastside Church in Shallotte, North Carolina. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM followed by a service at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Brunswick Memorial Gardens following the service.
