WHITEVILLE — Four correctional officers were assaulted Thursday afternoon during an incident inside the state prison on Prison Camp Road, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at 2:37 p.m. after an inmate allegedly attacked officers using personal force. Victims were identified as Eric Taylor, Ryan Fields, Gerardo Maggioli, and Tyler Strickland.
The suspect is listed as a 39‑year‑old white male, 5’09”, 185 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
No serious injuries were reported, and the case remains under investigation as assault on a government official.
