Crews begin replacing electric meters more than 20 years old; Green Sea area work starts next week

Horry Electric Cooperative contractor crews are beginning a year‑long project to replace electric meters that are more than two decades old. Work is being completed by substation areas, with the next phase scheduled to begin in the Green Sea substation area next week.
Members in the area will see contractor crews working nearby. Here’s what to know:
- Contractor identification – Each contractor will have a Horry Electric picture ID badge.
- Safety gear – Crews will wear safety vests while performing meter replacements.
- Vehicle markings – Magnets on both sides of their vehicles will read “Contractor for Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc. 369‑2211. Ask for ID.”
- Door‑knocking policy – Contractors will knock on doors before changing the meter at the service location but will not knock before 8:00 a.m.
- Work schedule – Crews will work Monday through Friday and may work Saturday if rain delays occur during the week.
- Daily hours – Workdays end at 4:30 p.m.
Members whose meters are scheduled for change‑out will experience a brief outage during the replacement. Those opted in to text alerts will receive a notification before work begins in their area.
