Deputies assisted in shooting response, crowd incident, multiple arrests, and 84 weekend transports to J. Reuben Long.
Atlantic Beach, SC — The Horry County Sheriff’s Office reported a high‑volume Memorial Day weekend, with deputies deployed across Myrtle Beach, Atlantic Beach, and North Myrtle Beach as visitor numbers surged along the Grand Strand.
According to the agency, deputies assisted partner departments in several major responses, including a shooting in Myrtle Beach and a crowd‑related incident in Atlantic Beach. Deputies also recovered two firearms, arrested a wanted suspect out of Marion County, made an arrest for assault on an officer, and investigated three traffic collisions.
Between Friday and Sunday, 84 individuals were transported to J. Reuben Long Detention Center. The Sheriff’s Office said its Booking Department maintained continuous operations throughout the holiday period.
Officials noted that the influx of visitors required coordinated efforts among regional law enforcement agencies to maintain order and respond to calls for service.
