Horry County, SC — Horry County Government has selected Cpl. Tom DelPercio as its Public Safety Employee of the Quarter, an award that spans all county public safety agencies. DelPercio serves on the Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, where he recently arrested a suspect accused of possessing more than 250 images of child sexual abuse. Through his investigation, he also identified two minor victims. The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Sheriff’s Office officials said DelPercio’s work demonstrates the persistence and attention to detail required to protect children in Horry County, particularly in digital‑forensics cases that demand extensive review and verification.
The Sheriff’s Office also nominated Melissa Goins of the J. Reuben Long Detention Center for Public Safety Employee of the Quarter. Goins works in the facility’s IT Department, where she develops data‑driven reports that support daily operations. Her expertise has been essential as the detention center transitions to a new jail management software system, ensuring continuity and accuracy throughout the changeover.
