A lawsuit filed in June 2026 claims a prohibited pet pig escaped through a broken fence and attacked a resident on a neighborhood roadway.
Conway, SC — A Conway homeowner has filed a lawsuit against his neighborhood’s homeowners association and two residents after an escaped pet pig allegedly charged at him and caused multiple injuries. The complaint, filed June 4 in Horry County, centers on an incident that occurred on October 10, 2024, in the Maple Ridge Estates subdivision.
According to the lawsuit, the pig, named Lulu, escaped from the yard of neighbors Derek and Blair Davis through a broken section of fencing. The animal reportedly ran along a public roadway and sidewalk within the neighborhood. The homeowner, Paul Soucy, says he attempted to help return the pig when it lunged toward him without provocation and bit him. The lawsuit states he suffered injuries to his leg and other parts of his body, resulting in pain, impairment, and scarring.
The HOA’s bylaws prohibit residents from keeping farm animals, including pigs, and alleges the association knew the animal was being kept on the property but did not enforce the rule.
Soucy claims the HOA had a responsibility to prevent prohibited animals from being housed in the community and failed to act despite being aware of the situation. The lawsuit also accuses the Davises of not properly securing the pig and not taking steps to prevent it from escaping or posing a danger to others.
The lawsuit was filed nearly two years after the incident. South Carolina law generally allows up to three years to file personal‑injury claims, and it is common for civil cases to be filed months or years after an event as individuals undergo medical treatment, gather documentation, or attempt to resolve disputes without court involvement.
