Have Your Say: OKInsight Survey Now Open

Town invites residents, property owners, and businesses to help shape Oak Island’s future

The “OKInsight” Community Survey is now open at OakIslandNC.gov/SURVEY, giving the entire Oak Island community a chance to help guide the Town’s long‑term direction. The survey will remain available through the end of the month.

This biennial survey is the largest and most comprehensive community feedback effort conducted by the Town. It invites residents, property owners, business owners, and community stakeholders to share their perspectives on the services, amenities, and priorities that matter most.
Oak Island is a barrier‑island community known for its 10 miles of south‑facing shoreline, 65 public beach access points, extensive parks system, and a year‑round population of more than 9,000 residents—a number that grows dramatically during the summer season. With such a diverse and expanding community, public input is essential to ensuring that services, infrastructure, and planning efforts keep pace with evolving needs.

The OKInsight survey helps Town leaders better understand how people experience Oak Island’s:
• Public safety services, including Fire, Police, and Oak Island Water Rescue
• Beach and waterway access, from parking to dune walkovers
• Parks & Recreation programs, events, and facilities
• Infrastructure and maintenance, including streets, stormwater, and beach management
• Quality‑of‑life priorities, such as walkability, environmental protection, and community amenities

Feedback from this survey directly informs strategic decisions, budget planning, and service improvements. It also helps the Town balance the needs of long‑time residents, young families, retirees, second‑homeowners, and local businesses.

Every two years, the town asks the community what makes Oak Island a great place to live, work, play and where improvements can make the biggest impact. Your insight ensures that future planning reflects the values, expectations, and lived experiences of the people who know Oak Island best — help guide the future of this island community.
