George William “Buck” Craig Jr. –

George William “Buck” Craig, Jr. was born on August 25, 1934 in a small cotton mill and steel producing town of Anniston Alabama. He grew up there and was first and fiercely a family man and a University of Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

After graduating high school he joined the US Navy in November 1953 and after attending various Naval training schools he became a Petty Officer Communications Radio Operator assigned to several different types of naval ocean going ships such as Ocean Tugs, Mine Sweepers and Destroyers. While home ported at Charleston, S.C. he met and married his beloved wife Julene Fowler in November 1964 and was happily married for 48 years until her death in 2012.

Not long after completing his service in the US Navy in 1973 he and Julene moved back to her parents farm in the Williams Township Mobile N.C. area and built their home there where it remains to this day. George applied and was accepted for a Federal Civil Service position at the Sunny Point Army Ammunition Depot at Southport, N.C. He retired in 2001 after almost 30 years. He also attended Southeastern Community College and earned his associates degree in Transportation Technology.

He and Julene have 5 children and 4 grandchildren. George had many passions including crossword puzzles, watching ball games and Nascar racing, gardening, fishing and digging clams at Holden Beach with Julene. He also had various newspaper delivery routes during his lifetime.

He was an extremely humble man, was always fair and kindhearted. He is survived by his 3 children and their spouses; Gary Craig, Tony Craig and Chris Craig. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

George will live on in all of our hearts and will be a testament to us all in how to live out lives with grace and continued love for all.

His funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday August 14, 2026 at Peacocks Chapel with Rev. Anthony Fipps officiating. Burial will follow in Fowler-Stanley Cemetery.
