Whiteville gathers for a Fourth of July celebration marking 250 years of service, sacrifice, and national pride.

WHITEVILLE, NC — A milestone Fourth of July celebration is taking shape in Columbus County as the Veterans Memorial Park of America prepares to host Freedom Fest, a community event honoring 250 years of American history, service, and sacrifice. The celebration will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the park, located at 6354 James B. White Highway South in Whiteville.

Freedom Fest is designed as both a patriotic tribute and a family‑friendly gathering, bringing together veterans, local residents, and visitors for a day of remembrance and celebration. The event is dedicated “to honor all veterans — past, present, and future,” reflecting the park’s mission to preserve military history and recognize the men and women who have served across generations.

Attendees can expect a full lineup of activities throughout the day. Military displays will offer an up‑close look at equipment, memorabilia, and educational exhibits that highlight the evolution of America’s armed forces. Informational stations will share historical insights and resources for veterans and their families. A variety of vendors will be on site, along with live entertainment and a designated kids’ corner to ensure younger visitors have plenty to enjoy. Organizers say additional features and surprises are planned as the event approaches.

With the nation marking its 250th anniversary, this year’s Independence Day carries added significance. Freedom Fest aims to capture that spirit by blending celebration with reflection, giving the community a place to gather, learn, and honor the legacy of service that has shaped the country.
