Ford Issues Urgent Recall; Local Dealerships Brace for Influx

“Do Not Drive” warning hits Bronco Sport and Maverick owners across the tri‑county region

Ford’s newest safety recall is prompting immediate action from drivers in Brunswick, Columbus, and Horry counties, after the automaker and federal regulators issued a “Do Not Drive” advisory for select Bronco Sport and Maverick models.

The recall centers on front lower control arm ball joints that may detach from the wheel knuckle, causing a sudden loss of steering. The defect affects 4,653 vehicles nationwide, including 2021–2026 Bronco Sport and 2022–2026 Maverick models.

Local Ford service centers in Shallotte, Whiteville, Conway, and Myrtle Beach are preparing for a surge in inspections. Several confirmed they will provide free towing and loaner vehicles for anyone affected by the “Do Not Drive” notice.

Residents from Leland, Lake Waccamaw, Tabor City, and Little River have already begun calling dealerships to confirm whether their vehicles fall under the recall.
