Ford Issues Nationwide Recall for 741,000 Vehicles Over Rollaway Risk

Transmission defect may prevent Park from fully engaging; owners urged to check VINs and schedule free repairs

Coastal Carolina News Staff Writer

Ford is urging vehicle owners across the country to take immediate action after announcing a critical safety recall affecting roughly 741,000 U.S. vehicles. The company says a transmission defect may prevent certain models from fully engaging Park, creating a potential rollaway risk if the parking brake is not applied.

The recall spans several of Ford’s most popular SUVs and trucks, including the 2018–2021 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, the 2020–2021 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator, and the 2021 Ford F‑150. Ford reports that a damaged or missing transmission component may allow the vehicle to appear in Park while still capable of moving, prompting federal regulators to issue the safety alert.

Owners are urged to check their vehicle identification number immediately at nhtsa.gov/recalls to determine whether their vehicle is included. Ford is directing drivers to schedule a free inspection and repair through their preferred dealership as soon as possible.

Local service centers assisting with recall appointments include Jones Ford in Shallotte, Beach Ford/Lincoln in Myrtle Beach, Conway Ford in Conway, and Bennettsville Ford in Bennettsville.

Until repairs are completed, Ford advises drivers to fully engage the parking brake every time the vehicle is shifted into Park to reduce the risk of unintended movement. All recall-related inspections and repairs are provided at no cost to owners, and dealerships are prioritizing appointments due to the size of the recall.
