WHITEVILLE, NC — The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has officially approved the sale and license transfer of long-standing Whiteville AM radio station WENC (1220 kHz).
According to federal regulatory filings, the assignment of authorization transfers the full-power broadcast facility from Godwin Communications, LLC to Raleigh-based Fire Media LLC. The FCC formally granted the transaction on August 6, 2026, following the initial application submitted on April 14.
WENC, which has served Columbus County and surrounding coastal communities for decades, was operated by Godwin Communications under administrator Tahitian McKenzie. Under the terms of the transaction, full ownership and broadcast assets will transition to Fire Media LLC.
The buyer, Fire Media LLC, operates as a digital media, technology, and broadcasting firm headquartered out of 414 Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh. The company is owned and managed by Vincent “Ed” Clark, a North Carolina media host and political commentator known for producing and hosting The Deal with Ed Clark out of the firm’s Raleigh studio space. Clark holds 100% of the voting rights and equity in Fire Media.
The regulatory filing also included a Local Marketing Agreement (LMA), allowing Fire Media to manage station programming and daily operations ahead of final closing. With federal approval now secured, both parties are expected to complete closing documentation and formally conclude the transfer.
