Brunswick County’s early voting period for the 2026 Primary Election closed with 15,354 ballots cast, according to turnout data released by the county elections office. The numbers reflect steady participation across all five early‑voting sites and strong engagement from both major parties as well as unaffiliated voters.

Early Voting Turnout Tops 15,000

A total of 15,354 voters cast ballots during the early voting window ending March 3. The turnout figure includes all ballots cast at the Government Center, Leland Cultural Arts Center, St. James Community Center, Sunset Beach Community Center, and the Supply Senior Center.

Daily turnout climbed steadily throughout the two‑week period, peaking on February 27, when 1,632 voters cast ballots across the county’s sites. The busiest locations overall were Leland, with 4,313 voters, and Sunset Beach, with 3,869 voters.

Party Breakdown Shows Strong Republican Participation, High UNA Engagement

The data shows 10,077 Republican ballots and 5,277 Democratic ballots cast during early voting.

Unaffiliated voters—who make up a large share of Brunswick County’s electorate—played a significant role. Of the 5,160 unaffiliated voters who participated:

  • 3,314 chose a Republican ballot
  • 1,846 chose a Democratic ballot

Republican ballots accounted for the majority of early votes in most precincts, though several areas—particularly in northern Brunswick County—showed more balanced participation between the two parties.

Turnout by House District

Early voting participation varied across the county’s two state House districts:

  • House District 17: 6,034 Republican ballots, 3,514 Democratic ballots
  • House District 19: 4,043 Republican ballots, 1,763 Democratic ballots

District 17, which includes Leland and much of northern Brunswick County, recorded the highest overall turnout.

Precinct-Level Participation

Precinct turnout ranged widely, from fewer than 100 voters in NB01 to more than 2,000 in SB03. The highest‑turnout precincts were:

  • SB03 (Sunset Beach area): 2,030 voters
  • NB06 (Leland area): 1,145 voters
  • WB06 (Winnabow area): 1,178 voters
  • NB02 (Leland area): 1,020 voters

These precincts historically rank among the county’s most populous and politically active.

Voting Patterns by Location and Day

Early voting sites saw consistent traffic, with the largest surges occurring in the final days:

  • February 26: 1,338 voters
  • February 27: 1,632 voters
  • February 28: 1,425 voters

Leland was the busiest site nearly every day, often doubling turnout seen at the Government Center or Supply.

Notes From the Elections Office

The county notes that totals may shift slightly as same‑day registrations are processed and incorporated into the statewide voter file. Finalized numbers will be reflected in the next statewide update.
