Shallotte’s largest modern residential build restarts after nearly two decades of inactivity
A long‑quiet Shallotte subdivision is moving again after sitting untouched since the 2008 housing crash. Residential construction has restarted on a 400‑acre tract along the Shallotte River off Grey Bridge Road, reviving a project that was shelved before the first phase ever fully materialized.
Shallotte officials approved updated plans from Pulte Group in 2025, clearing the way for a reworked version of the original master plan. Early concepts from the mid‑2000s envisioned more than 1,250 residential units. The revived plan now outlines 804 single‑family homes, 300 multi‑family units, and 174 townhomes, creating one of the largest modern residential communities in the town’s pipeline.
Developers have described the project as offering a “resort feel without leaving home,” with amenities and internal connectivity intended to keep the neighborhood self‑contained while still tied to Shallotte’s commercial core. With land clearing and site work now underway, the long‑dormant riverfront project is officially back in motion.
