By BC News Staff Writer
WHITEVILLE, NC — A local commuter is issuing a stark warning to motorists in Whiteville after a hidden road hazard on Burkhead Street caused significant damage to her vehicle this week. A local commuter warns Whiteville drivers of this hidden tire-slicing hazard, currently marked only by a yellow bag near Hill’s Grocery.
The Incident
The hazard, described as a sharp object protruding from a hole in the pavement, is located immediately after turning off North Lee Street onto Burkhead Street, a primary route for residents heading toward Hill’s Food Center.
The commuter, identified as Maggie, reported that the impact resulted in a large gash in her tire. She noted that the object is “barely noticeable” during the turn, making it a difficult-to-avoid trap for unsuspecting drivers navigating the intersection.
In an effort to protect other drivers, Maggie placed a yellow bag over the protruding object to serve as a makeshift warning marker. Drivers are advised to look for this yellow marker and take the turn wide to avoid property damage.
