COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC — Local deputies responded to a wide range of calls over the weekend, including a drive-by shooting into an occupied home, a major commercial burglary, drug seizures, and the service of felony warrants involving kidnapping and burglary.
Shooting Under Investigation on Waynes Way
Deputies responded to a report of shots fired into an occupied home at 88 Waynes Way in Whiteville late Friday night, July 17. According to incident reports, a projectile shattered a kitchen window while two occupants—aged 62 and 21—were inside. Investigators recovered a .45-caliber projectile and four shell casings from the scene. No injuries were listed in the initial log.
Thieves Target Contract Lumber in Major Heist
Deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office were called to Contract Lumber at 1980 Georgia Pacific Road in Chadbourn on Friday morning following a breaking and entering. Suspects made off with thousands of dollars worth of commercial equipment and tools, including:

Stihl chainsaws, backpack blowers, and weed eaters

Milwaukee impact wrenches, saws, and multi-battery chargers

DeWalt drills and cordless fans

A Predator generator, air compressor, jump box, television, and Keurig coffee maker
Two male suspects (ages 40 and 00/unidentified) are listed in connection with the break-in.
Felony Warrants Served for Burglary and Kidnapping
Early Monday morning, July 20, deputies served felony warrants on a 31-year-old male at 18 Brick City Road in Whiteville. The listed charges on the warrant include First-Degree Burglary, Second-Degree Kidnapping, and Communicating Threats.
Traffic Stop Seizes Methamphetamine and Paraphernalia
On Sunday evening, July 19, a traffic stop on Westbound Andrew Jackson Highway near Mile Marker 256 resulted in drug charges against a 35-year-old female driver. Deputies seized suspected L-Amphetamines/Methamphetamines, a digital scale, syringes, cut straws, torch lighters, and three sets of handcuff keys. She was charged with possession of Schedule II controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
