County leaders recognize National Vietnam Veterans Day as local veterans’ organizations continue their long-standing support for those who served.

Whiteville, NC — Columbus County Commissioners have adopted a proclamation recognizing National Vietnam Veterans Day, which will be observed on March 29, 2026. The proclamation was requested by Veteran Anita Adams and accepted by Veteran Mike Creen, who serves with the Columbus County Veterans Services Office and has long supported local veterans navigating benefits, claims, and resources.

National Vietnam Veterans Day offers the community a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by Vietnam‑era service members and to honor the courage, resilience, and continued contributions of those who served.

For decades, the Columbus County Veterans Services Office, located at 805 Pinckney Street, Whiteville has been the county’s central resource for veterans seeking help with federal and state benefits. Many Vietnam veterans first turned to this office when they returned home, and it remains a trusted support system today. Staff and volunteers, including veterans like Mike Creen, assist with disability claims, pensions, survivor benefits, education programs, and referrals to VA medical centers.

Whiteville is served by two separate veteran‑focused organizations, each contributing in its own way to supporting and honoring local veterans. Columbus County proudly recognizes its Vietnam veterans and expresses deep gratitude for their courage, commitment, and service to the United States.
