Drive-thru event in Whiteville to help students meet state-mandated immunization deadlines.

WHITEVILLE, NC — With the upcoming school year approaching, the Columbus County Health Department is helping local families stay ahead of state-mandated health requirements.

The health department will host a Back-to-School Drive-Thru Vaccine Clinic on Monday, August 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Columbus County Health Department Building, located at 604 N. Madison Street in Whiteville.

This clinic is designated for students entering Kindergarten, 7th grade, and 12th grade who need their state-required school immunizations.

Per North Carolina law (G.S. 130A-152), students must be up to date on specific vaccinations to avoid school exclusion. Kindergarten students must be current on DTaP, Polio, MMR, Hepatitis B, and Varicella vaccines. Seventh-grade students are required to receive a Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) booster and their first dose of the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine. For 12th-grade students, a booster dose of the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine is required.

To assist families as they prepare for the first day of school, FREE school supplies will be distributed to participating students on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Families are encouraged to bring their child’s current immunization records to assist staff on-site. For more information regarding state requirements, visit immunize.nc.gov
