New location expands access to children’s oral health services across Columbus County
Whiteville, NC — The Columbus County Health Department has opened its new Pediatric Dental Clinic at 810 Spivey Road in Whiteville, offering families an updated and more accessible location dedicated to children’s oral health. The clinic provides preventive and restorative dental services for children and teens up to age 19, continuing the county’s long‑standing focus on early dental care and community access.
The move allows the department to expand capacity and improve the overall patient experience. Services at the new location include exams, cleanings, X‑rays, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, simple extractions of primary teeth, emergency evaluations, and referrals to pediatric specialists when needed.
The opening of the Spivey Road clinic also represents a broader investment in youth health services. The North Carolina Oral Health Section reports that counties with dedicated pediatric dental programs see higher rates of preventive care and earlier detection of cavities, reducing the need for emergency dental treatment. Columbus County is designated a Dental Health Professional Shortage Area by the U.S. Health Resources & Services Administration, indicating limited access to dental providers. The new clinic helps address that gap by increasing appointment availability and improving access for children and teens.
The Pediatric Dental Clinic accepts Medicaid for eligible children and provides services regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Sliding‑fee discounts are available based on household income, and financial assistance information is provided at the front desk.
