Collier’s gift shop in downtown Whiteville will soon close, owner Lori Collins announced Jan. 4 in an emotional Facebook video. The neighboring business, Collier’s Jewelers, will continue operating as usual.
Collins, who owns both stores with her husband, Todd Collins, said the decision followed months of reflection and prayer. She emphasized that the closure is not tied to poor performance. The shop saw increased sales over the past year, including during the holiday season.
Instead, Collins said the challenge of managing two businesses had become overwhelming. She explained that her responsibilities at the jewelry store were growing, and she felt stretched too thin. Closing the gift shop, she said, will allow her and her staff to fully focus on Collier’s Jewelers and future plans for that business.
Collins also addressed rumors circulating in the community, stressing that only the gift shop is closing. “Collier’s is not closing,” she said.
The gift shop reopened Jan. 6 for a 50%‑off closing sale, which includes Christmas merchandise, spring and summer items from pre‑orders, and products that never made it to the sales floor. All items on the floor are included in the sale. Christmas gift exchanges will be honored through Jan. 24, but all sales made after Jan. 6 are final.
Looking ahead, Collins said she hopes to open a small Christmas‑themed shop later this year using remaining holiday inventory. She is tentatively aiming for a July opening but noted that plans may change.
Collins closed her announcement by thanking customers for their years of support. She described the moment as bittersweet but said she is also excited for what comes next.
