Curfew set to begin January 31 as officials prepare for potential disruptions
Whiteville, NC – In anticipation of a severe winter storm expected to impact North Carolina, Mayor Terry L. Mann has declared a State of Emergency for the City of Whiteville. The declaration, effective January 30, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., aims to safeguard residents and ensure a coordinated response to potential disruptions caused by the storm.
The decision follows Governor Stein’s statewide State of Emergency declaration under Executive Order No. 32. Weather projections indicate the storm could strain essential services, public safety, infrastructure, and utility systems across the region.
To protect public health and safety, the City of Whiteville has implemented a nightly curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., beginning Saturday, January 31, 2026. Exceptions to the curfew include essential travel for work, medical needs, and emergency purposes.
Mayor Mann has directed law enforcement officers and emergency management personnel to enforce city ordinances, state and federal laws, and the City of Whiteville Emergency Operations Plan. The declaration also mandates the dissemination of information to the public through news outlets and other channels to ensure residents are informed and prepared.
“This declaration is a necessary step to protect our community and ensure we are ready to respond to the challenges this winter storm may bring,” said Mayor Mann.
The State of Emergency will remain in effect until further notice. Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the storm.
