Chadbourn Woman Charged in Large‑Scale Fraud, Forgery Case

CHADBOURN — A Chadbourn woman is facing a long list of felony financial‑crime charges after deputies arrested her Wednesday in what appears to be one of the county’s largest fraud cases so far this year.

Jean Whitehouse Connor, 60, of Rough and Ready Road, was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center on April 22 and released the same day. According to detention records, Connor is charged with multiple counts of:

  • Insurance fraud
  • Obtaining property by false pretense
  • Common law forgery
  • Common law uttering
  • Attempted false pretense
  • Common law robbery

Several of the charges carry felony status, and many were listed with bond included in other charges, while two insurance‑fraud counts carried $20,000 unsecured bonds each.

The arresting agency was the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, and all charges remain awaiting trial.
