The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Reserve Deputy Christopher Allen “Chris” Wood, a longtime public servant whose life was defined by service, faith, and devotion to others.
Chris dedicated decades of his life to protecting and supporting the people of Brunswick County. His commitment to public service began early, helping establish Tri‑Beach Fire alongside his family. He went on to serve in the United States Army, work in emergency medical services, and deploy to Baghdad as a contract paramedic attached to the United States Marine Corps. Each chapter of his life reflected the same steady purpose: to help those in need.
He joined the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office in 2008 and served until his retirement in 2020, remaining active with the agency until early 2025. In his final years with the Sheriff’s Office, Chris played a key role in implementing the CJIN Tracking System under Marsy’s Law, strengthening protections for victims of domestic violence and leaving a lasting impact on the agency’s victim‑services efforts.
Beyond his professional service, Chris was known as a devoted husband, father, outdoorsman, and man of deep faith. Friends and colleagues remember his love for hunting and fishing, his unwavering dedication to his family, and the humility and grace that guided the way he lived his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Odell Williamson Auditorium. Military honors will be provided by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. In keeping with Chris’s wishes, attendees are encouraged to wear colorful clothing.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office asks the community to keep Susan, Savannah, Marci, and the entire Wood family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
