Brunswick County Register of Deeds Offers Free Fraud Alert Service

Email notifications help property owners monitor filings and spot suspicious activity

By BC News Staff Writer

Brunswick County residents can sign up for free Fraud Alert notifications through the Register of Deeds Office. The service sends an email if a document is recorded using a monitored name, giving property owners an early warning if unexpected or potentially fraudulent activity appears in county records.

Deed fraud and scam filings continue to affect property owners nationwide. While no system can fully prevent fraudulent activity, early notification allows individuals to respond quickly if something unusual is detected.

The Fraud Alert program is free to use and allows participants to monitor multiple names. Registration takes only a few minutes, and notifications are delivered by email in the early morning when a match is found. Names are not case‑sensitive, and users can update or modify their monitored list at any time.

Residents who own property in Brunswick County may find this tool helpful as an added layer of protection. Sign‑up information is available at brunswickcountync.gov/997/Fraud-Alert
