County leaders, advocates, and residents will gather for a proclamation reading, partner recognition, and the annual pinwheel garden planting.
BOLIVIA, NC — Brunswick County is partnering with the Carousel Child Advocacy Center and organizations nationwide to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month 2026, emphasizing early, community‑driven prevention.
“The safety and well-being of children are collective responsibilities,” Social Services Director Robby Hall said. “We urge everyone to help create a safer, healthier environment for children and families.”
A recognition event will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, on the Lisa M. Thompson Walking Trail at the Brunswick County Government Center. Parking is available at the David R. Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Drive.
The program includes the County Commissioners’ Child Abuse Prevention Proclamation, local child welfare data, recognition of community partners, and the annual pinwheel garden planting. Attendees are encouraged to wear blue for Wear Blue Day.
“The pinwheel garden is a visual reminder of the bright futures every child deserves,” Health and Human Services Executive Director Catherine Lytch said.
Throughout April, the Judge Ola M. Lewis Courthouse and Charters of Freedom settings will be illuminated in blue from dusk to dawn at 310 Government Center Drive.
