Brunswick County Man Arrested in Ongoing Child Sexual Assault Investigation

SHALLOTTE — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit has arrested a Shallotte man in connection with an ongoing investigation into the sexual assault of a child.

Detectives took Daniel Neal Long, 51, of Old Ferry Connection SW, into custody late Tuesday night. He is charged with five counts of statutory rape of a child by an adult and five counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult.

Long is currently being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center. Officials say the investigation remains active and that additional charges may be forthcoming.

Sheriff’s Office Seeks Information

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information related to this case to contact Detective Shepherd with the Criminal Investigations Division at 910‑363‑6976.

All individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
