Bolivia, NC — Brunswick County’s 2026 property tax bills are now available online and will begin arriving in mailboxes soon. Bills include county and municipal property taxes, applicable municipal fees, and updated fire fee rates where approved.
Taxes are due and payable September 1, 2026, and may be paid without interest through January 5, 2027. After that date, a 2% interest charge is applied, followed by an additional ¾% each month the bill remains delinquent.
The County offers multiple payment options: online via Municipay, by phone at Brunswick County Revenue, in person at the Sandifer Administration Building, or by mail to P.O. Box 29, Bolivia, NC. 28422. Payments sent by mail must carry an official USPS postmark dated no later than January 5, 2027.
This year’s bills reflect newly approved fire fee rates for departments that requested changes.
Brunswick County remains the only county in North Carolina that uses a fire fee system rather than a fire tax. Fees are regulated under Session Law 2017‑60 and are based on heated square footage for improved properties or acreage for vacant land. Residents with questions about their fire fee should contact the fire department serving their property.
Beginning in 2026, Oak Island property owners will receive one combined bill from Brunswick County that includes both County and Town of Oak Island taxes and fees. The County will remit the municipal portion directly to the Town.
Brunswick County collects taxes for most municipalities, including Bald Head Island, Belville, Boiling Spring Lakes, Bolivia, Calabash, Carolina Shores, Caswell Beach, Leland, Navassa, Northwest, Oak Island, Sandy Creek, Shallotte, Southport, St. James, Sunset Beach, and Varnamtown. The County does not collect for Holden Beach or Ocean Isle Beach.
County tax rate questions should be directed to the Brunswick County Tax Office. Municipal tax rate questions should be directed to the respective town or city. Fire fee questions should be directed to the fire department serving the property. Property owners can identify their fire district using the County’s online tools, including the Property Record Card and Property & Tax Information Tool.
