SBI partners with three sheriff’s offices and two district attorneys to coordinate multi‑county narcotics enforcement
ROBESON COUNTY, NC — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation announced the formation of the Border Belt Drug Task Force, a multi‑agency partnership aimed at disrupting drug trafficking along the I‑95 corridor and across southeastern North Carolina.
The new task force brings together the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorneys Jon David and Matt Scott, and the SBI.
Officials say the collaboration is designed to strengthen regional enforcement by allowing agencies to share intelligence, coordinate investigations, and pool resources to target drug networks operating across county lines.
According to the SBI, drug traffickers routinely move narcotics through multiple jurisdictions, making isolated investigations less effective.
The agency said the Border Belt Drug Task Force will focus on identifying trafficking patterns, supporting local deputies with investigative tools, and improving communication between counties that frequently encounter the same criminal networks.
Sheriffs from the participating counties noted that the initiative addresses long‑standing challenges tied to narcotics distribution in the region. They pointed to violent crime associated with drug activity, the heavy flow of illegal substances along the interstate corridor, and the need for unified enforcement efforts that do not stop at county borders.
The SBI said the task force will begin coordinated operations immediately and will continue working with local, state, and federal partners as investigations develop.
