Blood Drive Set for July 17 at Columbus County Library

Red Cross schedules one-day collection event for the 28472 area

Whiteville, NC — The American Red Cross will hold a single community blood drive in the Whiteville area on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Columbus County Library, located at 407 North JK Powell Blvd., Whiteville. This is the only scheduled America Red Cross blood drive in the 28472 for that date.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m, providing standard whole-blood donation appointments along with a limited number of Power Red slots, reflecting strong demand for the double red cell option.

A Power Red donation collects two units of red cells through an apheresis process and is reserved for eligible donors who meet specific height, weight, and hemoglobin requirements. These donations are especially valuable for trauma care, surgical patients, and individuals with chronic anemia.

Donors can schedule a time by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or by calling the American Red Cross at 1.800.733.2767

The Red Cross encourages donors to schedule appointments in advance to help manage flow and reduce wait times. Summer months typically bring increased need for blood products, making local participation important for maintaining supply levels across southeastern North Carolina.
