Black’s Tire and Auto Service Marks New Chapter with Whiteville Facility Expansion

Nearly a century after its founding, the regional automotive leader celebrates the grand opening of its upgraded South Madison Street location.

Whiteville, NC — Whiteville is where the story began nearly 100 years ago serving the community. Black’s Tire and Auto Service has officially expanded its footprint in Whiteville, celebrating the grand opening of its new facility at 1242 S. Madison St. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Thursday, June 11, 2026. This new location underscores the company’s commitment to the region, providing enhanced service capacity and improved accessibility for automotive maintenance and tire needs.

The company’s deep roots in the community trace back to 1929, when the business was established as “Black’s Service Station” by W. Crowell Black in Whiteville, North Carolina.

While the business began as a single station during the Great Depression, it has evolved significantly over the last nine decades. In 1981, Ricky Benton Sr. began a partnership with Mr. Black, eventually assuming full ownership of the company in 1996. Under the leadership of the Benton family, including Ricky Sr. and his sons. Black’s Tire has grown into a major regional presence with more than 75 locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia, all while maintaining its headquarters and core operations in Columbus County.

Beyond its retail and commercial success, Black’s Tire is well-known for its integral role in the motorsport’s community. The company has a long-standing tradition of supporting NASCAR, serving as both a team partner and an entitlement sponsor for major events, such as the “Black’s Tire 200” at the historic Rockingham Speedway.

Their approach to business emphasizes family values and community investment, evidenced by their ongoing support for regional initiatives like the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina and their commitment to employing hundreds of local residents. This latest expansion in Whiteville represents the company’s continued dedication to both its historic hometown roots and its future in the automotive service industry.
