BEMC Opens Annual $16,000 Scholarship Program for Local Seniors

Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program, which provides $16,000 in awards to students across its service territory in Brunswick County and parts of Columbus County.

One scholarship is awarded each year to a senior from every public high school served by BEMC.

The program reflects BEMC’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities it serves. By supporting local students as they begin their college, technical, or vocational studies, the cooperative continues its long‑standing investment in developing future leaders across the region.

Applications are available online and remain open until mid‑March. All completed materials must be submitted through the student’s guidance counselor by the deadline.

To be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens who attend one of the eight qualifying high schools: East, South, West Columbus High Schools, Columbus Career and College Academy, and North, South, West Brunswick High Schools, or Brunswick County Early College High School.

Applicants must live in a residence that receives electric service from BEMC and must be the dependent of a BEMC member whose permanent primary residence is currently served by the cooperative. Students must also have been accepted to an accredited two‑year community college, 4-year college, or vocational or technical school, and they must plan to enroll full‑time, with at least twelve credit hours, beginning in the fall of the award year.

The online application can be accessed through BEMC’s website, and students should work with their school’s guidance counselor to ensure all required materials are submitted before the mid‑March deadline.
