Judge issues order after failure to appear on mandatory hearing for 88‑mph speeding citation on I‑140

Brunswick County, NC — Jennifer Schmitt Belichick, 36, is the subject of an order for arrest after she failed to appear in Brunswick County District Court on July 10 for a mandatory hearing related to a May 21, 2026 speeding citation on Interstate 140.
Court records show Belichick was cited for driving 88 mph in a 70‑mph zone near the Mt. Misery Road exit. Because the speed exceeded 80 mph, North Carolina law required an in‑person appearance rather than a waiver. When she did not appear, a judge issued the arrest order on July 13.
Belichick is the wife of UNC defensive coordinator Steve Belichick and daughter‑in‑law of former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, according to publicly available university and family information.
She is presumed innocent of any allegation until proven otherwise and the case remains pending. The NCDMV may suspend her license if the failure‑to‑appear is not resolved within 20 days.
