BCSO Lieutenant Completes FBI National Academy Training

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Joe Cherry (BCSO)

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Joe Cherry has graduated from the FBI National Academy, completing the 297th Session of the program held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Lt. Cherry was one of 253 law enforcement professionals selected from across the United States and around the world. The session included officers from 48 states, the District of Columbia, 24 countries, four military organizations, and four federal civilian agencies.

The FBI National Academy is internationally recognized for its advanced academic and leadership curriculum. Over 10 weeks, participants complete coursework in communication, leadership, and physical training. Officers selected for the program typically have decades of experience and return to their agencies prepared for expanded leadership responsibilities.

Sheriff Chism and Lieutenant Cherry

This milestone carries added significance for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Brian Chism is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, completing the 274th Session in 2018. He has spoken often about the value of the program’s training and its impact on professional standards within the agency.

 

Since its founding in 1935, more than 56,000 law enforcement professionals have completed the FBI National Academy.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office recognized Lt. Cherry’s achievement as a reflection of his commitment to professional development and service to the community.
