Colorado donor funds protective vests honoring a family member

Bolivia, NC — Four Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K9s – Ronin, Jax, Pepper and Black have received new bullet and stab resistant vests through a charitable donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Vested Interest in K9s is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2009 that provides protective vests and related support to law enforcement K9s across the United States.

The organization has supplied more than 6,397 vests valued at $6.9 million to agencies in all 50 states. Each vest is U.S.‑made, custom‑fitted, NIJ‑certified, weighs about 4 to 5 pounds, and includes a five‑year warranty. A single $1,050 contribution sponsors one vest.

The vests provided to Brunswick County’s K9s were sponsored by Sherri Widlund of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and embroidered with the dedication “In honor of Aunt Marge Wright”

The program is open to certified, actively working K9s at least 20 months old, including those with expired vests. An estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s serve nationwide.
