Equipment loss reported as two-acre brush fire is extinguished on Cedar Hill Road

Navassa, NC — NVFD and Emergency crews from multiple agencies converged on the 1200 block of Cedar Hill Road on April 24 following a brush fire that consumed approximately two acres. According to department leadership, including Chief Donny Williams and Assistant Chief Jason Thornton, the blaze was triggered by a lawn mower operating in a field, which quickly ignited the surrounding vegetation.
While the fire remained contained within the field, the equipment involved was reported as a total loss.
The Navassa Volunteer Fire Department led the response with Brush Units 1976 and 1977, as well as Engine 1973. Due to the nature of the fire and current environmental conditions, a significant mutual aid effort was required to manage the scene. Supporting units included the Leland Fire Department, New Hanover County Fire Rescue, and the North Carolina Forest Service, all of whom worked in coordination to prevent the flames from spreading beyond the initial property.
